Our Story

In 1988 brothers Woody, Neil and Joel Loftus, together with their father (Joel Snr), began the Loftus Sprite Dealership which originally only sold the Sprite Caravans. The family has always placed an emphasis on providing customers with personal attention and a high level of service from the very beginning, and building a good reputation within the caravan industry. Attention has also been given to promoting the Dealership at shows and exhibitions, as well as advertising regularly in key publications.

In 1994 Loftus Caravan City was also awarded the Gypsey dealership and became the first dealership in the country to be awarded both brands. Loftus Caravan City then became the first multi-franchise dealer when it was awarded the Jurgens dealership in 1995.

Despite the widely held belief in the business world that you should never work with family, Woody, Neil and Joel have proven their strong and formidable partnership.

Woody, Neil and Joel believe that their combined passion for caravanning and the leisure industry is another reason for Loftus Caravan City being a successful Dealership.

Late in 2017, with various shifting in the industry, Loftus Caravan City was appointed as the Gauteng Dealer for Bush Lapa Caravans, followed by Okto Caravans and Stealth Caravans in 2018. Loftus Caravan City also began importing the Swift caravans from the UK in 2018, with the first models (the Atlantic and the Coastline) being launched at the Caravan & Outdoor Show in February 2018. Around this time, Loftus Caravan City also became one of the largest LeisureWorld camping shops across South Africa.
Covid-19 struck South Africa in 2020, and while our whole country faced many challenges that year (especially during the period of “hard lockdown”) our staff continued to work hard and promote our products using social media and online advertising platforms. As a direct result of our staff’s efforts, when Loftus Caravan City re-opened its doors, we were able to “hit the ground running” and continue providing the same quality products and services to our customers.
In October 2021 Loftus Caravan City welcomed Nicole Ostrom as a shareholder. Nicole has worked at Loftus Caravan City since 2010, starting as a bookkeeper and growing into various other roles as well, such as importing and marketing to name a few. Nicole shares the same passion for the caravan industry and lifestyle, as well as the focus and dedication towards customer service. She is active behind the scenes and is full of ideas to promote growth for both Loftus Caravan City and the caravanning industry.

All four owners agree that the running of the business is a team effort – staff included – and they could not do it without the excellent support they receive from their 35 employees. Woody, Neil, Joel and Nicole are constantly looking at ways to improve the dealership; working together with their staff to drive innovation, uniqueness and improvement.
